I grew up in the quaint town of Fordyce, Arkansas, where the vast expanse of pine trees seemed to stretch endlessly. Raised by my loving parents and guided by the wisdom of my Great Aunt Josie, I imbibed the values of hard work and community from a tender age.
Aunt Josie, a pillar of strength with a heart overflowing with compassion, often shared tales of our family's history on the porch of our home in Fordyce. She recounted the struggles of her grandfather, a resilient sharecropper, and her own challenges during a time when segregation cast its shadow over our nation.
Captivated by her stories, I absorbed the lessons of resilience and determination, knowing that my journey would be filled with obstacles. Despite financial constraints limiting my college education, I seized every opportunity to learn and grow, graduating in the top 25% of my class from Fordyce High School.
Returning to my roots, I embarked on a career in law enforcement, starting as a patrol officer in the Fordyce Police Department before serving as a campus police officer at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. My tenure led to significant arrests, including individuals possibly tied to the Oklahoma City Bombing, showcasing my commitment to justice.
Recognized for my dedication, I transitioned to a role as a bailiff for Judge Rita W Gruber in the Pulaski County Juvenile Courts, witnessing firsthand the impact of decisions on our community's youth. Additionally, I played a pivotal role in organizing the first-ever juvenile jury trial, a testament to my commitment to justice and fairness.
Seeking new challenges, I pursued a career in private investigation in Arlington, Texas, where my attention to detail and dedication saved companies millions of dollars by uncovering fraudulent workers' compensation cases. Subsequently, my journey led me to the aviation industry in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I served as a customer service analyst for a major airline.
In Charlotte, my passion for community service flourished as I became involved in local politics, serving on the planning board and board of adjustment for Stanley, NC, and the Gaston County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Driven by my experiences and fueled by my unwavering commitment to equality, I aspire to be a beacon of hope and advocate for change in my community.
My journey, from the serene forests of Fordyce, Arkansas, to the vibrant streets of Stanley, North Carolina, is a testament to my determination and belief in making a difference.
As Aunt Josie's wisdom echoes in my heart, I am reminded of the legacy I am building—a legacy of inclusivity, compassion, and unity. Across diverse communities, including Stanley, North Carolina, I strive to inspire and advocate for the empowerment of every voice, creating a ripple of positive impact.
With each step forward, I am guided foremost by the divine wisdom and grace of God, followed by the values instilled in me by my upbringing. I remain steadfast in my commitment to building a brighter, more equitable future for all.
